Updates and Project 365..
Soooo… this is my 99th “real” post to the blog… meaning it doesn’t have to do with other give-aways or things like that…. I STILL don’t know what I’m going to give-away for my 100th post… probably a bag of sometime or perhaps a dog collar or keychain or fabric… AHHH I just don’t know.. I will not post until I figure something out… HAHAHAHAHA… so keep watching…
Updates… hmmm…
YCMT quilt… I have all the pinwheels sewn and squared again… I have to take a picture…
Turning 20 quilt… it’s all sorted out… needs to be sewn together…
Calendar quilt.. February is all sewn up.. January still needs embroidery and so does February…
I think that’s it for quilts…
Fabric dolls… are still cut out and not sewn.. I got the software back on my computer for my embroidery machine and now only need to embroider the face on the fabric so that I can sew the dolls up for Valentine’s Day…
NEW project… knitting dinosaurs for the girls… got most of 1 stegosaurus knitted up just need to sew the parts together and finish up the other parts to the second one… and then get to work on T-rex… other than the velociraptor T-rex is Haley’s fav..
NEW project… need to start working on Steph’s baby shower book and possible blankets for the twins..
Always projects… cleaning the house and learning how to cook something new… hahahahaha… yea right!
OH yea… and we started going back to the library for storytime! The girls love it. We actually checked out a few things this last trip.. including a discovery bag.. it had a stuff t-rex in it… Haley absolutely fell in LOVE with it… which is the main reason I’m knitting dinosaurs.. I got the pattern over the summer but just never got around to it… now I have to get it completed before we return the bag or there is going to be a war… hahahaha.. or at least a bunch of tears.
Project 365
This morning the girls played in their room alot while I tried to catch up on blogs and clean.. they have been seriously demanding all my time this week… Don’t get me wrong it was fun… but getting anything done.. like cleaning was a challenge…
Anyway… here is a picture of my proud Haley and her foam fish… She’s starting to really use her imagination to create things! She was so proud of herself she sat and let me get several pictures of her and her fish.
Again… please ignore the stained carpet… I think we are ripping it out this summer and going with the wood flooring underneath..
Turning 20 Quilt update and Project 365
Well I finally got all the cutting done for the Turning 20 Quilt… Now to get the fabric sorted and sewn together… when am I going to find the time… I’ll try for this weekend.
Project 365
So the girls have been playing MUCH better together… I can’t believe it… they play instead of taunt each other… well… Autumn taunts Haley… but that’s besides the point… They actually play… their latest game is “play rolling the ball”..
Please don’t look at the messy room or the carpet that need to be shampooed…
Post 92 and counting… Project 365 and Quilt updates..
Well if you are counting this is post 92… I still haven’t figured out what to offer for my 100th post give-away.. got any suggestions?? Leave me a comment.
Project 365..
What else is today’s picture going to be about but the weather… The girls woke up at 7:20 a.m. and decided it was time for everyone to get up, even if it was against our wills. So we knew it would be a cold morning since the days before reported it would be the coldest night of the week if not the month. Well we got up to go see just how cold it was outside… BURRRRR.. it was -14.6°F… YES I typed MINUS 14.6°F!!!
Here is the picture to prove it. The top number is the inside wall temp and the bottom is the outside wall temp… and just so you don’t worry, it wasn’t 60°F in the house it was closer to 70°F, if not more in the kitchen.
I also took a picture of the outdoor thermometer that you can see through the kitchen window… notice… that this one says it’s colder, closer to -16 or -17°F!!! BURRRRRRRRRR
Needless to say we stayed inside for the better part of the day. It warmed up to mid 20’s later but it was just too cold to do anything. I hated having to let the dogs go out to pee.
I still can’t believe it was that cold and OH so TOASTY inside!
Quilt Updates…
I haven’t done much with any of my quilt projects. I hope to get more directions for the YCMT Quilt on Monday and I haven’t done anything put picked some fabric for the Calendar Quilt. I still have to install my embroidery machine software to embroidery January 2009 on one of the blocks. All the fabric for the Turning 20 quilt has been ironed, I hope it will turn out cute… Wonder who will get these quilts… hmmmmm
Basement wall, sewing projects, and Project 365…
Basement Wall…
It has been a BUSY evening for us tonight… lots of projects either started or completed…
Tonight Mike worked on the construction of a 1/2 wall for the basement. We took down a wall down there last month.. sorry no pictures… and tonight he built a 1/2 wall to keep the girls safe from the wood/coal stove.
He still has to put a top on it, paint it, and move the tv cable (orange cable to our bedroom tv) out of the way… and do something with the fan.. although it does help circulate the heat… oh yea and move the futon over so that the girls don’t have direct access to that side of the basement. Autumn won’t go over there… she doesn’t like the flames. We also want to install some kind of netting or something that will not stop circulation but will stop anything from being thrown over the wall and land on the stove. Suggestions?
We are pretty sure the girls will love their new space… oh yea… we have to move the tv to this side of the room too.. it’s mounted on the wall… as well as get a computer connection going on down there.
Sewing Projects…
As for me.. I did a few sewing projects this evening… I made a 40″ draft stopper for the basement door.. hope to stop some of the cold air… and I made 2 sewing machine covers and 2 serger covers. All of them are red. All made from fabric that was obtain through Freecycle! 3 of them are corduroy and the other is a canvas. I made them all of red because I’m hoping the girls see the red and think STOP… as in stop signs.. *crossing fingers*
I also finished my pinwheels for my YCMT quilt.
And, with the help of Mike, we picked out fabric for February for the Calendar Quilt Challenge. I still have plans to iron out my fat quarters for the Turning 20 quilt project AND sew up cloth dolls for the girls… these two might have to wait until tomorrow though.
Project 365..
I couldn’t make up my mind as to what picture to use… so there are two…
First one is of Autumn asking me to take a picture of her funny face. She has gotten into sticking out her tongue to make a funny face. Here she is carrying some juggling cubes that I use to juggle when I was in college. My mom sent a box with some of my old stuff in it and some new books for the girls. I only have 2 of the 3 cubes so she’s not going to juggle too much.
If you look closely in the background you can see a glimpse of the messy computer room and my Futie.
Next is a picture of Haley seconds later with a pair of reindeer antlers on. They played with this for about an hour until I had to take it away because they were taking the bells off and pulling the lights out of it. I MIGHT be able to fix it.
Just don’t look at our messy living room… HAHAHAHA
YCMT Quilt Update
Yesterday directions were updated at the YCMT blog for the quilt sew-a-long…
I got started last night.. I was squaring up my triangle blocks until about midnight. Here is the before/during picture and below the after picture. Use the diagonal line on your ruler to make sure the edges are square.. do one side and then the other. I started with 5″ squares and cut them all to 4 1/4″. I was going to do 4″ but I wanted to be different… HAHAHAHA
Next step is to sew blocks into pinwheels. I was so excited about getting the cutting done I forgot to take pictures of the sewing process… whoops..
Since I used so many different fabrics it was hard matching the colors together. I decided to only match the dark fabric and just make sure the other side was light. Once that was done I took those 4 triangle blocks and sewed them together making sure the 2 matching blocks were opposite each to other and sewed them together.
Here is the before sewing picture. You can see that the darker fabric is the same fabric but the lighter fabric is a little different and in opposite corners.
From here the blocks were sew by folding over to one side and sewing the two top triangle blocks together and then the two bottom triangle blocks together
The last step to make the pinwheel block is to take the new retangle shaped blocks and sew them together.
Basically, after sewing press open and make another pinwheel with the two halves and then fold down and sew the top long edge.. if you use 1/4″ seams then you should end up with 16 blocks that look like these.
More detailed and better pictures can be seen at the YCMT blog.
I’m excited to see what the next step is… borders? sew together? batting? oh this is too exciting.. What AM I going to use for borders, trim or backing???? I don’t have any more of this fabric… Yikes… I only had the two charm packs.
